Exploring Islam from a Christian Background
Honouring Jesus and Mary (peace be upon them) and the pure monotheism of the Creator
A respectful, thoughtful journey exploring the Oneness of God, the noble status of Jesus and Mary in the Qur'an, and the unbroken Abrahamic prophetic tradition.
1. Pure Monotheism: The Uncompromising Oneness of God (Tawhid)
Just as Jesus affirmed the greatest commandment: 'Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one' (Mark 12:29 / Deuteronomy 6:4), the Qur'an confirms this same timeless truth in Surah Al-Ikhlas. In Islam, every human being has direct, unmediated access to God through sincere prayer and devotion.
"Say, "He is Allah, [who is] One, Allah, the Eternal Refuge. He neither begets nor is born, Nor is there to Him any equivalent.""
"Allah - there is no deity except Him, the Ever-Living, the Sustainer of all existence. Neither drowsiness overtakes Him nor sleep."

2. Jesus and Mary in the Qur'an: Honour, Miracles, and Truth
Furthermore, the 19th chapter of the Qur'an is named after Mary (Surah Maryam) — the only woman mentioned by name in the entire Qur'an. She is hailed as the most chosen and purified woman of all nations. Jesus is revered as the Messiah, a spirit from God and His word, who spoke in infancy and healed the blind and leper by God's permission.
"[And mention] when the angels said, "O Mary, indeed Allah gives you good tidings of a word from Him, whose name will be the Messiah, Jesus, the son of Mary - distinguished in this world and the Hereafter and among those brought near [to Allah].""
"[Jesus] said, "Indeed, I am the servant of Allah. He has given me the Scripture and made me a prophet.""

3. The Continuity of Prophecy: From Abraham and Moses to Muhammad
The Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) said: 'My similitude in comparison with the other prophets before me is that of a man who has built a house nicely and beautifully, except for a place of one brick in a corner. The people go about it and wonder in its beauty, yet they say: Would that this brick be put in its place! So I am that brick, and I am the seal of the prophets.' (Sahih al-Bukhari: 3535).
"He has ordained for you of religion what He enjoined upon Noah and that which We have revealed to you, [O Muhammad], and what We enjoined upon Abraham and Moses and Jesus - to establish the religion and not be divided therein."
"The Prophets are paternal brothers; their mothers are different, but their religion is one."

4. Salvation, Divine Grace, and Personal Accountability
Salvation is reached through God's infinite grace (Rahmah) and sincere personal repentance (Tawbah). No sacrifice or bloodshed is required for God to forgive; whenever a servant turns back to Allah in sincerity, Allah forgives all sins, for He is the Most Forgiving, the Most Merciful.
"Say, "O My servants who have transgressed against themselves [by sinning], do not despair of the mercy of Allah. Indeed, Allah forgives all sins. Indeed, it is He who is the Forgiving, the Merciful.""
"And no bearer of burdens will bear the burden of another."

5. The Holy Qur'an: The Preserved Word of God
God Himself undertook the promise of safeguarding it from interpolation, guaranteeing that seekers of truth have direct access to His authentic, uncorrupted guidance.
"Indeed, it is We who sent down the Qur'an and indeed, We will be its guardian."
